Privacy Policy

Effective date: 1 June 2026 · Applies to: Stash Chrome Extension, v1.0 and later

Plain-English summary Stash stores your tab data on your own device only. Nothing is sent to any server. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no third-party services involved. You can export or delete everything at any time.

1. Who we are

Stash is a Chrome extension developed and maintained by Shayaan Qazi ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at 2014shanoo@gmail.com.

2. What data Stash processes

When you explicitly choose to save a session, Stash captures and stores locally:

Tab URLs — the web address of each tab you save.
Tab titles — the page title as shown in the browser tab.
Favicons — the small site icon displayed in the browser tab. Oversized or embedded (data-URI) favicons are discarded automatically; only small URL-referenced icons are kept.
A session name — auto-generated from the date and first tab title, editable by you at any time.
Timestamps — when each session was created and when each tab was captured.

Stash does not capture passwords, form data, page content, cookies, location, or any information beyond the URL, title, and icon of each tab you choose to save.

3. How data is stored

All data is written exclusively to chrome.storage.local — Chrome's on-device extension storage. This data lives on your machine. It is never transmitted to any server, shared with any third party, or uploaded anywhere.

Stash requests the unlimitedStorage permission so that heavy users (many sessions, many tabs) are not silently blocked by Chrome's default 10 MB cap. This does not change where the data is stored — it is still local only.

4. Why we collect it (purpose and legal basis)

The sole purpose of capturing tab URLs and titles is to fulfil the core feature you explicitly requested: saving and later restoring your browser sessions. No data is used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose other than displaying your saved sessions back to you and reopening them when you ask.

Processing is based on your explicit action. Stash captures data only when you click "Save tabs", use the keyboard shortcut, or right-click a page and choose a Stash menu item. Stash is never active in the background passively reading your tabs.

5. Data retention and deletion

You are in full control:

Sessions stay in your library until you delete them.
Deleted sessions move to a trash folder and are automatically and permanently removed after 30 days.
You can empty the trash at any time from the Stash popup.
You can export all sessions to a JSON file from the Settings page.
Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data from your device.

6. Permissions and why Stash needs them

Permission	Why it is needed
`tabs`	To read the URL, title, and favicon of your open tabs when you explicitly trigger a save, and to reopen tabs when you restore a session. Stash does not run content scripts or passively monitor your tabs.
`storage`	To persist your saved sessions and settings in `chrome.storage.local` on your device.
`unlimitedStorage`	To remove Chrome's default 10 MB cap on local extension storage, so users with many sessions are never silently blocked.
`contextMenus`	To add "Save this tab" and "Save all tabs in this window" right-click menu entries.
`alarms`	To schedule a periodic background task that permanently deletes trashed sessions after their 30-day retention window, so your device is not holding data you intended to discard.

Stash does not request host permissions and cannot read the content of any web page.

7. No third-party data sharing

Stash does not sell, rent, transfer, or disclose your data to any third party under any circumstances. There are no analytics services (such as Google Analytics), no crash-reporting services, no advertising networks, and no embedded third-party code that could transmit data.

8. No remote code execution

Stash does not fetch or execute any code from a remote server. All logic ships as part of the extension package you install from the Chrome Web Store. The extension makes no outbound network requests.

9. Children's privacy

Stash is a general-purpose productivity tool not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from users under the age of 13.

10. Your rights

Because all data is stored locally on your own device, you already have direct access to and control over everything Stash holds. You can:

Access — view all sessions in the Stash popup at any time.
Export — download all sessions as a JSON file from Settings.
Correct — rename any session inline in the popup.
Delete — remove individual sessions, empty the trash, or uninstall the extension to remove all data immediately.

11. Changes to this policy

If we materially change what data Stash collects or how it is used, we will update this page and revise the "Effective date" at the top. For significant changes we will post a notice in the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
