Something not working?
Stash is made by one person, and every message is read by that person. If something is broken, confusing, or missing, write in. You will get a real reply.
Bug reports are the most useful thing you can send. Tell me what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. Your Chrome version and the site you were on help a lot. Feature requests are welcome too.
Before you write in
My saved group disappeared
It is almost certainly still there. Open Stash, go to the Trash tab, and check. Anything you delete stays in the trash for 30 days and can be put back with one click.
If the group is not in the trash, do not uninstall the extension. Uninstalling erases the local data for good, and nothing is stored on a server for me to recover. Email me first.
Searching does not find a page I know I saved
Stash reads the text of a page at the moment you save it. A few kinds of page have no readable text to take:
- Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides draw their text on a canvas, so there is nothing to read.
- PDFs, videos, and some heavy web apps behave the same way.
- Pages behind a login that had not finished loading when you saved them.
- Anything you saved before you updated to version 1.3, which is when text capture was added.
Those tabs are still saved and still restore normally. They are just link-only, so searching matches their title and address rather than the page body.
The keyboard shortcut does nothing
Chrome hands each shortcut to one extension only, so another extension may have claimed Ctrl + Shift + S first. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts, find Stash, and set whatever combination is free.
Restoring a large group is slow
It should not be. Tabs come back unloaded and only load when you click one, so hundreds of tabs open without stalling the browser. If a restore is genuinely hanging, tell me roughly how many tabs were in the group and I will look at it.
I want my data out
Open Settings and use Export. You get your whole library as a single JSON file: every group, every tab, and the saved page text. Import takes the same file back in, on this machine or another one. Nothing is locked up and there is no account to cancel.
Does Stash read my browsing?
No. It reads one page at the single moment you choose to save that tab, and never otherwise. It does not watch your open tabs and does not run in the background. Everything it saves stays on your device: no account, no servers, no analytics. The full detail is on the privacy page.
